Trimac Spawn

So I bought 6 Amphilophus trimaculatus from Rapps about a month and a half ago. At the time, they were about the size of a quarter. They are now a whopping 2.5" and they have already paired off and spawned

Has anyone else seen this in trimacs this young?

I'd be really interested to know if anyone else had fish this small that paired off and spawned. I thought I was at LEAST 6-8 months away from anything approaching this kind of behavior. Do they always spawn so young?

I am surprized that they have spawned so small i would have thought more like 5-6"would be sexual maturity for a fish that grows large.I know u got to be proud to have a young wild caught pair of trimac's i would.

Nope, not wild. They were bred by Rapps not very long ago, about six months I would guess

That was the impression I got from him when he sold me the fish. I bought some wild festae on the same order but I believe that the trimacs were fry that he had from his own breeding stock.

He does A LOT of F1 and F2. Still, that's better than pretty much anywhere else you can look.
