So I was reading a book on Central American Cichlids when I came across this description of Trimac Cichlids by Richard, F, Stratton....

"This red eyed Cichlid literally breathes fire. When James Langhammer was curator of the Detriot Zoo, he wrote of Trimacs that took feeder mice away from the Alligators".

Now if that was true, that is amazing. I am intrigued to learn more about this Cichlid - I have only recently read about them and know nothing at all really. They look amazing - and many people seem to say they are great wet pets. Anyone who owns a Trimac ( Everyone ) Please post photos and stories of your Trimacs. I want to know more about what they are like to own.

Please don't let this thread die straight away, if you get 5 minutes get some pics up and share some stories. Thanks for your time.

no pics but my lil bro got a 7year old male at 16inchs hes a beast we get scared to do a water change he has to call me over so i can trap him so he can clean the water and man that things hard to hold back looks like he just wants to rip of the hand lol

Heres some pictures of mine, the picture are about 2 months old but he hasn't changed much although he might be a little bigger now.

Story wise there is nothing special other than he tries to attack anyone and everyone who enters the bed room. I think I am getting to the point where I can hand feed him, he accepts one pellet at a time when I drop them in to feed him I am just too chicken to hand feed him yet.

Sorry about some of the quality on the photos I didn't look to see which were better than the others I just uploaded them all from the latest file

I currently have a 4.5-5" male that I got from Gage at Cichlid Connection, but I don't have any pics that I can find.

Here is a Rapps-sourced male that I used to have, at about 8" in the pic.

And RiskEE: Please get some pics of that guy!

They really are amazing cichlids, they look so cool. I am definately having one of them at some point. If I can find one that is ! They are quite rare am I right? Pure specimins I mean?

cichlid_8810, it is hard to find a true trimac because of the flowerhorn craze. You should find true specimens from reputable breeders. I think that my current trimac is sourced from Conkel F0 or F1 parents (please chime in, if you see this, Gage.)

The brute I used to have. He was spectacular...unfortunately I lost him in a move. :(
