Spangling is another tell tale sign something has been mixed in along the lines. You'll never come across a legit pure trimac with any type of spangling. This isn't meant to hurt anyones feelings. It's important as fish keepers to know what we are keeping and what we are distributing though out the hobby.

Does spangling differ from scale irredescence, and how do you know that a true trimac cannot have spangling/irredescence?

I agree. From my experience "good quality" trimacs exhibit sort of a blue iridescent hue in the background... Any spangling on a trimac is usually a good indication it's a hybrid. "How do you know a trimac can't have spangling?" It's simple ... Not a characteristic of they're breed. So that trait must be picked up else wear. Personally I wouldn't touch a trimac with spangling on it. I'd be pretty suspect. Some really nice trimacs in this thread. Great fish guys! Keep the photo's coming.

Is it just me or does anybody else notice that cichlidinsomniac is from mass, and when i didnt agree with him erin/p showed up out of nowwhere as a trimac expert also from mass. can ayone say troll
:WTF:
i dont know but i would say that looks really suspicious to me.
Come on people lets just move on from this foolishness.I know 100% with out a doubt that the parents are from rapps, and i doubt very seriously he would waste his time on this. One good thing i must say is cichlidinsomniac does have a nice trimac, and thats all that really matters. erin /p if you really want to troll can you please do it else where. I will no longer respond to this foolishness because its derailing a nice thread. Ok people i know there is more trimacs out there keep them coming.

btw if any of the moderators would like to remove any of my statements to keep this thread on track feel free to do so.

So SteveC/, I am just curious...do you think Ira's 7.5" male on page 4 is a true trimac, or no? It certainly has what I would consider "spangling", notably on the gill plate and rear half of the body. Or could this be a particularly irredescent trimac?

I got mine from Gage at Cichlid Connection. He has confirmed that he is from wild caught parents, and I have no reason to doubt him.

He does have outstanding color, but maybe that's due to genetics, 2x50% water changes per week and good food?

That's good to hear, just lookout out for fellow mfkers. He does have amazing color, so I guess I congratulate both you and gage. Keep up the good work.

I don't see spangling on Ira's fish.... I feel bad contributing to the derailment of this thread but find the subject fascinating... That whole spangling thing is just my two cents from years of experience... It's a good way to get an Idea of a trimacs true lineage... Take it for what it's worth or disregard it. I've been keeping and breeding A trimaculatum since the 90's...
