Well my main goal is to successfully house a trimac with a buttikoferi in a large tank where they can coexist was thinking 125gallon but now thinking 180gallon but if tested and these two were to go at it. Which do u think would take the cake on being tank boss also will throw in other fish to split aggression such as other cichlids like convicts, a pike or two, a catfish or two, a tiretrack eel, maybe a school of tinfoil barbs and lots of plants and caves and logs and rocks and driftwood for territories and breakup of lines of site and such was even thinking if worst came to worst throwing in a midas or red devil in there to breakup direct rivalry between the butti and trimac but who knows tell me what u guys think

I didn't vote cause it's a toss up. Depends on each fish either one could easily rule with an iron jaw or they could both be laid back cruisers. If either one decides to snap though look out cause you may have a bunch of dead fish :( But these are the risks we MFK'ers take when housing monsters together. I would go 180 and I think you'll be alright as long as they are around the same size. Probably each command 1/2 the tank :)

Thx for the reply hopefully all will work out but more input would be nice

I vote butti i have seen them commit alot haneous acts of violence but like ammerman19 says:iagree: it could go either way.

good replies guys keep em coming but would a butti really take on a trimac like how these votes are saying??? i know they are nasty but ive read up on trimac owners that trimacs were the most aggressive cichlid they have ever owned but who knows only time will tell just got to find the right sized butti since my trimac is alredy 4.5 inches and growing fast should i get a large butti or smaller butti??? they have a slower growth rate right??? Experts lead me to the right decisions

right now i have a female festea, jaguar, butti, vennestus, jd in my 125 all around 3-5 inches. jack dempsey being around 6 inches seems to be the boss of the tank but doesnt go after anyone. if theres food he usually first to eat besides that no aggression so far.:)

Ask Repair.....

I would agree with ammerman19 as it depends on the indvidual fish.....

But a Male Trimac is as bad as they come! I know, a good friend has one in a 300 gallon and has to move him.......

the bigger one.
