Here is a pic of my True Trimac. It is only 4.5-5". It is not the greatest pic, But he did not want to hold still, kept trying to get away from the camera.

Sorry I dont think thats a true Trimac either, as far as I know Trimacs are called 3 spot cichlids for a reason.

Now that is a cracking trimac

Is the '3 spot' rule true 100% of the time? Mine has 3 spots on him so I feel even more confident now in knowing he's pure Trimac. I knew Jeff Rapps wouldn't let me down...now if we could lower the shipping costs...

no the 3 spot rule doesn't aways work some trimacs have more then 3 spots I find it best to look at body shape base color and the face

PetSmart is getting these fish, I can't imagine what size tank they say you should have...Probably 20+ gallons. And I am sure they will say you can put other fish with them as well.

beautiful fish though, this thread makes me want to get one, but I really don't want to buy ANOTHER tank.

Too many low grade trimac/fh hybrids flooding the market these days, if its got more than 3 spots Id leave it be and wait till I found a nice one.

how big is the market in scotland?

The 3 spot rule is not an accurate way to determine if it's a trimac. I think it is based more on the 3 places they get spots with many of them having only three spots. the second part is just my opinion on the common name though. Makes sense to me though as they do not all have 3 spots.
