I am currently in the works of setting up a 30 gallon tropheus tank, but the only problem that I am running into is what size filter should I use. I am thinking that I am gonna go with the Fluval canister filter but not sure of what size. I am torn between the Fluval 304 and 305 for the simple fact that I am not sure if you can control the flow of water be shot back into your aquarium. One other thing that I am curious about, do the Fluval canister filters come with UV sterilizers? Thanks in advance:headbang2

The flow from either of these filters should be fine for your tank.

How many tropheus are you planning on putting in this tank? Tropheus are known to be very aggressive. It is recommended to keep a larger colony of tropheus. Generally a 75G or larger is recommended for a successful colony.

I am gonna purchase at least 15 tropheus moliro so that way when the dominant male is established and he has gotten rid of other males i should have at least 8-10,maybe more maybe less. I know that my success rate with this tank is extremely low but I am willing to give it a shot.

For the price your spending on tropheus wouldnt you rather put them in a proper sized tank. They definatley arent cheap fish.

I have years of experience with Trophs. You can do this. Get an Eheim canister and an Aquaclear hang on. You will probably change the Eheim 5 times in one year. I have this combo plus a sand bio filter on all my tanks. Get a good supply of Clout. You will have to deal with bloat from time to time. If you feed them dry food, soak it before giving it to em. Learn how to make your own Tropheus frozen mixture. Theyll love you for it! Once you have this licked, youll be getting that bigger tank. Good luck monster.
