trophs

Does anyone keep these with other fish? I know they have bloat issues and I know what diet they need, my questions is other than trophs have you keep them with other cichlids. I am think about getting some for my tang non mbuna malawi tank. (peacocks, and other open water). Thanks for the help.

I've got a moori w/ my mbuna mix w 4 fronts........he's been there for 2 yrs no prob!!

I have yet to see any aggression from any of my other cichlids towards my baby trophs, but they do seem to fight each other alot. I've seen troph in a giant mixed african set up. Id think theyd go good with just about anything.

Isn't bloat caused by wrong diet? Where if you had them in their own tank, you would be able to control their diet better?

I don't think it would be problem as long as all your other fish are fine w/ eating spirulina flakes as the bulk of their diet. I keep Tropheus (duboisi "Maswa" and sp. "black") with frontosas, Synodontis cats, and various dithers (Brycinus macrolepidotus, apollo sharks). I occasionally throw in some frozen bloodworms to supplement to spirulina flakes for the fish that require more protein. I've been doing this for several years and have yet to have bloat problems.

alright, I guess if I can find one for a good price again I will give it a try...picked up a buffalohead the other day...not lake but, he is doing okay. My julies hunt for him and chase him around. I have never seen them do this with any other fish I have had. It is crazy...

I have kept 3 tropheus Morii in a community tank. they havent had any health issues, and surprisingly they arent Oober aggressive. They live off the diet of the tank, which has a Wide range of foods, both frozen and live. And at least 3 kindsa algea type foods. earthworms, brine, feeder guppies. And they are beautifuly colored. Bright and healthy looking.

I have kept a Moliro for 4 yrs in a Aulo Tank. I just mix several type of flake foods with appx 70% mix of spirulina flakes. Have never had bloat issues.
Just make sure that whatever you feed the bulk of their diet consist of veg matter. They just cant have a stead or prolonged diet of high protein especiall when young.

I agree with this. I feed mine brine shrimp, even blood worms, once or twice a week but I followed that up with spurlina flake food a few hours later. The fiber in the veggie food keeps the high protein food moving through the digestive tract (prevents bloat).
