cause they are get fairly large like alligator only alot less aggressive, max out 3-4ft and get thick.

i have heard that in captivity they virtually stop growing at 18"? i think it was polypterus that said this, but dont hold me to it. correct me if im wrong.
i am so freakin excited for these guys to come in!!!

In captivity they typically max out around 20 inches. They have the potential to reach 30 to 35 inches for a big female. Once they reach 16 inches they really grow slow from there on with normal feeding and care.

What makes these the best aquarium gar is they are not skittish, are not picky about feeding and tend to be calm and relaxed. The small size and attractive coloration also is a big bonus in their favor.

I got my tropical gar about 6 months ago and it was 12" now 18+" and still growing very fast heard about 24" in home aquarium depending on size tank.
