a while back jeff rapps had some but i have not seen any for sale for a while i guess us gar keepers are a rare breed lol
Going by my trops I'd have to recommend a wider tank. My female trop is pushing the 30" mark and the male isn't far behind. Mine are uncaring of a scaped tank or bare tank (they've been in both at one time or another). So long as the water is clean and the food is on time, they're fine with anything.

last time he had them they was priced at $250 i think. i have not seen any more though
dang wonder how much the fine was i wish gars was legal in more states
not a trop but a cospecies. i plan on a 3' deep tank for my cuban over the next few years at 2 hes in the 16" bracket. so a 2' tank would last awhile ( longer then what most people call a awhile in the fish world ). imo 2' is barely okay for floridas and spotteds... everything else really needs 30"+ they all get that big or bigger in the wild, rarely do they seem to get close to their wild sizes even in larger outdoor ponds and oversized tanks. But for a fish that is like a swimming stick the wider tank really should be provided if possible. just my 2 cents on it. Ive seen 4-5 yr old floridas in 125s... they live, but it doesnt look comfortable imo. always bumping their snouts and rubbing them on the glass.
