99% sure I know the answer to this one, but here goes anyway.

I currently have a tank that is 7' Long 4' front to back and 2' tall. I have in it a Tropical gar that is about 16" in 5 silver dollars that are about 4 inches. Do you think that an arowana at 7" would stand a chance in the tank with the gar? Or more than likely will end up as an expesive feeder right?

Thanks,
Chris

it probably would eat it or kill it, but i have my gars with discuss, datnoid and it doesnt even care for them. i guess its depending on how he feels, he might be right but you can try and just keep your eyes on them...

The arowana will get eaten. Grow him out before adding him to the tank.

Awesome size tank btw! Do you have any pics to share?

expensive feeder....no doubt......good luck if you do try though

Its risky.. i have a tropical thats about 15 and still nips on the aros fins even though the aro is much bigger than it.

i added a 10" silver with a 13" gar. the gar is now 17" and the silver is like 14+. the gar doesn't even try to eat my mini giant gourami. depends on the fish. n how he feels towards a certain fish.

its a big gamble

but in a tank that size i would be putting some rays in right now :D

Had a ray that I over-paid for that died 2 months later.... But Ill get more soon enough.

I set up a divider in the tank last night so either side is 4'x4'. Gar should be ok and will give the arowana's a chance to grow out. Against my instinct I ordered 3 of them at 7 inches hoping the space and the odd number will be ok.

Arowanas tend to be umm fragile while smaller wait till the arow is about 12" or so than try.
