Tropical Vs Aro.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that should be okay. keeping multiple aro's is a gamble as well. i have 2 tho n i never see any agression out of them. maybe its cuz one is old.

Very aware of the arowana needs, mostly was curios about the gar's aggresion in general. I am hoping the with 3 aro's Ill be ok, but 5 would be too much for the tank.

In general terms Tropicus are not all that aggressive of fish at all. This is unusal for an Atractosteus which are typically among the more belligerant of gars. They are however highly opportunistic and will very well hit at and test out what they can anytime they can.

Any fish smaller than them is not safe with them. Aros and Gars in general are really never a good mix as either one or the other will suffer in the end. Long term housing of these two has been an elusive subject for many an aquarist and it never seems to work for very long.

I would highly suggest not keeping them together these fish do not mix well.

Well 6 days in and the aro's appear to be tolerating eachother. Day 2 there was some aggresion between the 2 larger fish, but that has stopped. I have the tank divided untill the arow's are at least the size of the gar.

I am inclined to say that this will work out, as the gar rarely shows any aggresion, and i had it housed with a black aro. for 5 months prior to this. Never had a problem between those 2 fish.
