Trout!!!!! Keeping in mind you have a chiller and 240 gallon plus tank.

Trout yes, chiller yes, 240 not always. Brook trout (though a char) will only need a 55-75 gal tank for an adult as long as they are not coasters strain of fry of coaster brood stock.

I was planning on brook trout because I heard they could fit in a 55 which is what I have. I am planning to simply grow out and give to a friend, so I won't be keeping any of my natives for life. The reason those are my only choices is because they are the easiest to catch around me. I do have two lakes near me with lots of species though so I'll have more options in the future once I become a more experienced fishermen.

How can I cheaply chill my tank? I can't drop all the money for a chiller if I won't even keep the fish for life.

A trick i heard was keep putting in a frozen water bottle but doing that every couple hours can get tedious.

You can make one with coils of tubing running through a mini fridge/freezer then back to your tank. You can find used for cheap.

From experience that doesn't work. I have kept brook trout in the past.

I would suggest a bluegill, a very adaptable one than a brook trout.
