ok so i live in southern cali.. always wanted to keep trout and now im gonna try it. im using one of my 100 gallon tanks to test it for a while. im usuing 2 ac110s and an xp3 for filtration. also 3 powerheads 2 of wich will be hooked up to bubblers. i have a mini fridge that ill be running the 3rd powerhead through. 1 question im pondering is could i just use rubber hose coiled up in the fridge? i dont see the absolue need to use copper tube. if i can cut that cost it would be great. also ive never drilled into a fridge before. im assuming all mechanicals are on the rear and i can drill my lines right into the side without damaging anything? also im going to try n set the water temp between 50-55. anybody with input would be awsome. ill take pics of everthing. also how do i transport the trout? im not setting up a chiller to my cooler. just using 2 bubblers. thanks guys

Let me start by saying I'm glad to see someone wanting to keep trout that has actually put some thought into it!

50-55 sounds like a good temp, I would think anything under around 60 should work, depending on what species your considering. Since trout live all around the world, I don't think ph will matter much, just focus on keeping the water quality as good as possible!

The only issue I can see right now is tank size...most trout species could easily outgrow a 100g. Your best bet may be some brookies if you can get them. Some species of cutts also stay smaller, but they seem more delicate....

I would think copper tube would be better then rubber tube only because the water would cool faster in copper, rubber would have an insolating effect.

im starting with the 100 as a tester. if i can keep it stable for a long period of time ill move it into a 180+ in my living room. for now i plan to set it up and if i can keep the temps between 1-3 degrees of my goal for over a week, ill add a small bow. local lake stocks 6-12 inchers. plan on going with barbless hooks and grab a small guy. if all goes well ill be looking for a way to transport from a farm. id love to keep 2 cutties!

Sorry man, can't help you with the fridge issue...take some pics and document what you do with it though, it could make a great DIY article!
