trout tank?

Where do you live?
Depending on where your tank is located in your house.. (here where I live its cold outside),
I have a flow pump streaming the water trough pipes outside the window [omg, bad english description from me] Anyway try cheaper options first.
You can also look for a small fridge and let the water go trough there, than + some pc fans will get the temp down.

Brookies can get huge.

A trout tank would be neat, but it would need to be long. I would build an overflow at one end, and have the return on the other end, probably with a couple large koralias as well. A chiller is going to be recommended.

Or a...what are they called...thermal well? I forget. But it's just a huge hole in the ground you run piping through to cool the water. My basement is 55ºF most of the year but if I wanted colder, that's what I would do.

i think im totally off the trout idea for now. im prob picking up an 8" Tilapia Buttikoferi just to fill it. someday i will get my trout tank, i just dont think it will be soon. sorry to anyone who wanted to see it
In a 55g?

ya i think im going to wait until i move my RBP out of the 100g long then try again. i wanted a nice show tank in the living room, and only my 55g fits. just picked up my Tilapia Buttikoferi and he looks nice. thanks for all the help guys!

Brook Trout are far smaller. I think in the wild they cap out at roughly 10-12" though average size around 3-7 inches. (strictly experience based). Rainbows can get much larger. I would guess capping out at around 14-16" with an average size of 6-9 inches and can get quite fat. Agreed with the above mentioning that you need a lot of current, cold water and a bunch of oxegen, especially for the brookies because they are found native in fast cold mountain streams. I'm not sure where you can find info on keeping them, but I can suggest that it will take a lot of patience and setup and maybe include some fail rate.

Yeah i went to a place where i caught at least 5 rainbows that were around 22-24 inches so they can get huge.

fallfish look absolutely nothing like a trout! Not even close man. Are you smoking some of that wacky tobacco? Very very funny.
