There is a true festae at my LFS. I would literally trade is all of my fish to get a true festae. What are some signs I need to look for before I buy it that would prove that it is actually a true festae? Thanks

i like your response haha he asked questions what IDing a fish and you tell him "ehhh theyre not that great" haha

ive always read that the postion of the spot on the caudal fin is a good way to tell though.

I'll also add that under most conditions, Festae are washed out, and not colorful. Not until they are really happy, in an ideal situation, do they start to color up - and even so, it's the females that have the bright coloration.

On the other hand, Mayans usually have some nice colors going on at all times, and are much more personable / outgoing.

Take your Aequidens, for example - probably has more personality. A festae all alone might hide all the time.

How is it behaving in the store? Any photos of it?

Yeah I seen that, i think they got their captions a bit mixed up! However the last sentence of the last paragraph explains figure 'c' to be a breeding pair.

lol sorry, didnt come out like that in my head, if you trade all your beloved fish in to get one and its boring it will be a right letdown, i liked my festae but in retrospect a good ol oscar or greenterror is much more of a pet... they are colourful yes but theres more to keeping fish than that or we would all have marine tanks!-)

btw, big tailspot in the middle is mayan smaller spot offset to the upperside of the tail is festae.. its pretty full proof once you have been through a few festae id threads in the search bar here!-)

gorgeous 180, on my too own list!-)
