blkg35 - sorry for the :topic:...thought we got the "true red head" part covered :)

No problem, this is very informative. I'm learning alot.
Keep it up guys, hopefully by the time i get some geos I'll have plenty of info to help me out.

Okay my question on these guys is, what is their aggression like? I have read that they are not aggressive but have never had one. Can they handle aggressive cichlids?

My LFS has one right now and is also a f0!!! Im about an inch away from getting him!

No, they are very conspecific focused and will stand up against their own kind and quarrel with them. But, anything truly aggressive would be too much for these peaceful fish. What is in the tank?

Im about to switch all of my guys over to a 150g. I have, Lyonsi, Pearsei, Pike, Midas (might go to different tank), Synspilum, JD, Guttulatum, Syno Cat, and a Large Frontosa.

All of these guys are small. Avarage size now is approx 4" on all except for the Front. He has to be around 6-7" and is really mean. Maybe I better not... I just wasn't sure how the Tapajos are with proper structure/hiding spots and such.

Sounds like a nice stocklist already! Though I wouldn't suggest adding any geos. Especially Orangeheads, these guys only get about 6 or 7 inches. My Altifrons are much hardier when it comes to fighting but with the CA Cichlids you have I don't think they could hold up in the long run.

Alright, this is great info! Thank you and I do have a few other tanks sitting so I might just set one up and try for a nice Geo type of set up. These Geos have really caught my eye recently so! LOL

I'm actually planning on putting about 5-6 geo orangehead tapajos in with my frontosas. The frontosas range from 4-6" in size. They are not very aggressive towards other fish except their own kind. So my plan will be 6 frontosas ranging from 4-6" and 6 orangehead tapajos ranging from 3-4". All will be in a 6ft 135gal tank. I think this will work out perfectly.
Just waiting to sell off some clown loaches and syno multis before i pick up the geos. Thanks for all the helpful info guys.....:grinno:

My only concern would be the water...I recently gave up a pair of fronts. They were eating well, fairly active, and gaining size, but I somehow had the feeling that they weren't happy. Some say tank bred fronts are better at dealing with soft and acidic water but I'm not sure...

I'd be more worried about the temp differance. I'm sure captive bred fronts could handle the hardness and pH, but the prefered temp range of OH might be too warm for the fronts.

I agree, one species would have to compromise their natural conditions rather significantly, so I don't this is a good mix. I've read of collections in the Rio Tapajós where the conductivity was undetectable, I am not sure that Fronts would enjoy that.
