When somebody asks the question what will the offspring of X and X be? The possibilities of the outcome are very broad.
Breeding hybrid traits takes time, patiences, experience and know-how. When breeding hybrids, almost all will look worst than both mother and father. But sometimes a few fry will pick up both positive traits of both mom and dad and have no deformities. These are the fish you want whether it be for breeding or stocking.
But this is looking like a young ugly mayan now. Too young to say potential yet, but if he darkens and peel he might be pretty special. What I can say is he will be fairly agro.

Agree on all counts

I agree with the comment regarding the Mayan Hybrid. Here in Miami, Midas and Mayan
Hybridize often in the canals. I have caught a few, and they look like the fish in the picture.
If that is what the fish turns out to be, It will end up with Mayan coloring with the fins looking more like a Midas. I had one that ended up growing into a mean bastard, and had to be removed from the tank. It seems to be a particularly aggressive combo.

Any pics? I'm not worried about aggression since it will be the only fish in the tank. I just want to know if anyone had grown something out like this before. I figured it was a long shot for someone to guess at it lol.

i'm in fort lauderdale and have never seen this hybrid... what makes you think that your catching hybrids? unless you've seen the parents (one being a mayan and the other a midas) i seriously doubt that's what it is... sorry to be so doubtful, but mayans can have long fins too, and they look different depending on were you catch them. you could also be catching barred midas too.

but if they are hybrids... pics? lol

Was this at The Reef in Indy?

I was in there yesterday, and they had "Festae (True RT) X True Midas" hybrids in there. I asked the guy what they would turn out like, and he said he had no idea. I don't have the room for them, so I can't get any, but it was interesting.

They had about 5 in there, and 4 looked like the one the OP showed, and one was BRIGHT orange. I'm really interested to see how these turn out.

The guy at the shop said there is someone local to the Indy area that has a Midas and Festae that keep breeding, and he brings them fry. Would be interesting to see what they grow into.....and they were only like $5.
