How can you tell apart Mayan false red terrors from festaes at a young age say about 2 in
I can show pics of some of what I have. I've brought 9 two inchers from 3 different places 3 at each in both greenbay and Milwaukee WI they all look a little different from each other but I'm not sure if any of them are festas I'll try to get pics there fast and small Thanks for any info

Mayan have a single spot on their midsection a half moon shaped occeli on their cadual pendecul and the first stripe goes straight down, as opposed to slanting into a Y bar when it reaches the tip of their gillplate.

put up some pics. there are numerous ways to tell which is which. some of which don't pertain to all fish, but once you know which is which it's like night and day

Best and easiest way is to look at the caudal spot. Festae's take up the bottom half of the caudal peduncle and the uro's take up the full.

The festae has soo many gorgeous bright spots on it's fins and body, as oppose to the urothalmus. Uros have simular coloring on the body and fins, but not the spotting as well as a few other small differences.

You could search the numerous threads on this topic already, or post pictures.
