True red devil or imposter?

If you have to ask, you already have your answer.

Since you have to ask, just assume it is a midevil hybrid though I can atleast say your fish leans on the red devil side by the looks of him.

They always have them labeled as red devil's, but now that he's bigger his lips don't look to be as big as a red devils should be. I know you all have alot of experience so I wanted to ask. Been in the hobby about 2 years.

Over the last few years the common name "red Devil" has come to be a generic term for any pink aquarium strain Amphilophine.
Its not a true species.
If you bought it from a respected breeder as Amphilophis amarillo, or Amphilliophus labiatus, it is possible it is or could be a true species.
If you bought it from a LFS as a red devil, then that's what it is, an aquarium strain Amphilophine red devil mutt.
Its not neseccarily an imposter, but there's no way to prove it isn't one.

What's to figure? Stick your hand in the tank and find out.
He hates when I do tank maintenance lol. He always goes after my hand and forearm. Unless I make a fist. I've learned not to even mess with the decor. He does what he wants lol. I call it "lawn maintenance".

for what i‘ve read the red devils lips form back in the aquarium if there‘s not enough algae to nip on, cause thats what their lips are for in the wild.
Not sure if thats correct, but seems logic
