True to environment or to your taste?

When I am setting up a biotope tank I want the tank to be the most true to the environment of the fish as I can get it. I often have to throw out some plants because I want more dimmed light than the palnt can take.

i usually try to be authentic, but sometimes i use a rock or a plant from another biotope if i feel it's worth the side step. in community tanks i just try to make it look good. no platic crap in my tanks though... i hate divers, treasure chest, skulls and crap like that :swear:

i like to set up tanks to look real. i hate colorful gravel, treasure chests, and scuba divers in tanks. but to each his own.

I agree with this unless its a feeder fish tank that a youngin is caring for.. then the youngin crys when I take out one of the gold fish to feed to my big boys.

I like the natural look. I even try to stay away from plastic plants. True to the species environment? Not as much.. As long as it looks natural, I like it. I do appreciate the work that goes into building a tank like that though. I give props to all those guys.

I love amano... and he takes plants from all different regions and continents to put his masterpieces together... I agree with the fact that the pirate ships and other fake ornaments are tacky... but so long as the fish are healthy and the fishkeeper is entertained, there's no limit to what you can do with a fish tank.

Im really not particular as long as the fish feel comfortable in their quarters...
Take Large PVC elbows for example, theyre not really native in the amazon but the
rays love it :)

Just dont make me use Bubbling volcanos, Deep Sea Divers, Mermaids and all those frivolous things... They dont belong inside my aquariums. Ok , i did have the treasure chest but that was a long time ago..

J/K!I Never did !! :D

I like them to look natural but I don't bio-tope. I would like to do that one day, I want to do some native bio-topes with local sand and everything but that won't be for awhile yet. The only non-natural decor I use is fake plants and flowerpots. Fake plants are easy to care for. :) Most of my decor is rocks from outside. One of my 29g is even full of sand and rocks I collected at the lake...better then any gravel you could buy IMO.

not even zoos could make it 100% natural it hast to be to our taste just more natural as aposed to pink gravel and a treasure chest and a big gold castle. just the fact that its an aquarium is unatural enough
