Trying out new foods

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that make no sence to waste even $60.00 on blk worms for an adult ray, my rays could eat that in one sitting. IT also would not be cost effective to feed krill or silversides as they are so expensive for small amounts..Talk about expensive. I too feed Mostly 95% pellets have now for about 2.5 years. I also feed Frozen shrimp and cut fish (all saltwater) to my rays. THey have bred several times and seem to be growing well and seem to be healthy. Just recently i have also been feeding some smelt to my rays in moderation.

Also if your worried about nightcrawlers giving a ray parasites then you should not feed blackworms, there is a lot better chance that you could get parasites out of blk worms than earthworms..lol

I feed frozen shrimps/smelt and massivore.. salt water seafoods. fresh water prawn is too expensive to feed like this.

My rays had bred healthy and big pups at very young age.

I never had that concern, Nic once said his rays got parasites from earthworms from walmart so that is why I stated that. The blackworms that I feed to my rays are farm raised, and so are the earthworms.
So the risk of parasites is little to none.

My rays are not adult size, so blackworms do go very far for me.
When they bigger I will continue to feed them to my rays regardless of price.

Money is no object when it comes to my rays.

all black worms and earthworms are farm raised all have potential for same risk..... even the group my friend has growing could get some form of bug... its called life xhit happens... i cut worms out completely... waste of money after a certain point.. turkey look in your food store... ive never seen a store that didnt sell freshwater and saltwater shrimps frozen...

Thanks for all the info, I think I will maintain a steady diet of nightcrawlers and shrimp. Until I can ge them one to pellets. And then I will probably mix it up alittle bit to keep them happy.

Does anyone know what foods do the rays we keep eat? I am assuming they come from all over the amazon, so the food chain must be very vast.

i have large dogs and i do not feed them steaks every night becasue it is not cost effective and i do not like to waste money. I feed them dog food.

Same with my rays i look for a healthy rich food source such as massivore (main diet), carnivore, cichlid gold, shrimp, mussles, smelt, that is fairly reasonble price for my rays.

Once your rays get some size on them, you will change your mind.

Like I said earlier, I will always keep them on blackworms.
Whether it is the majority of their diet or not.
