as ive will be moving shortly (ive sold the house :D) so my dad says ive got a garage to my self for fish tanks and fish so i said fair enuff he gose you can have what ever you want as long as you pay some money in for them (the catch) so ive been thinking he right in a way so im going to try and breed oscar monoc peacock bass and motoro stingray aswell,

so for the oscars idea:

ill get 6-8 oscar 2 albino 2 tiger 2 red and if possible 2 wild and get a pair out of them.
sell the others off that arnt a pair,

put the breeding pair in a 3ft or 4ft by 18" by 18" for life (should do fine)

and let them breed and sell the babys on ebay and onlineand to fish shops ( LFS ) at 1"-2" long babys,

sounds simple well i hope it is .

PEACOCK BASS idea:

get 5-8 monoc peacock bass grow them up to 12" get a pair or two ouit othe the lot sell the others off keep the pair(s) and breed them sell them at 2" for £20 or 10 for £150 on ebay and online and to fish shops ( LFS ).

put them if there is one pair in a 5ft by 2ft by 2ft (for a long time till aorund 22" long them probley upgrade, if there is 2 pairs a 6ft by 2 ft by 2ft and in time if one pair dosent breed sell them on .

STINGRAY MOTORO idea:
i will get the tank before the fish unless i can get the dead dead cheap like £50 each ,

but a 4ft by 30" wide by 2ft or 18" high for life untill they out grow then ill sell them for what i can get .after ther get a 24"+ disc then keep then keep 5 babys 2 males and 3 females and then breed them and so on and so on ill be selling £50 to people ino on here ;) and to others £70 so cheap any way .

what do you guys think ?

cheers
josh.

A generator would be expensive to run, much more then electricity, the gas alone for a decent sized gen would be around 20 bucks a day, plus factor in that your running a motor 24/7

hate to say it hun but im sure a 3ft or 4ft tank wouldnt be good for 1 oscar let alone 2. i no i wouldnt put one in mine. and the stingrays, that tank would b too small aswell i think, although i dont no alot about rays, so correct me if im wrong.
just puttin it nicely before the flaming starts.
hope all works well :)

i think you have good ideas, but may find out the ease of breeding these fish in such small tanks is not quite what you think it's going to be. let alone raising that many babies you will need more tanks just for that process. i like the concept, but i think some more planning will be needed.

and if you don't mind me asking if your looking to breed for money why oscars? everyone carries oscars, branch out for something different, just my opinion though

o and i'd try to stick with selling to other hobbiests instead of lfs, as lfs buy fish for much less than they actually sell them for. ex. paying $6 for a fish and sell it for $30. you'd probably get much better money from hobbiests unless you breed on a much larger scale.

im going to try wild oscars as they are had to get over ive only ever seen one wild in my life and it was around 10"+ nice fish stinning colours aswell from the importer ans for the small tanks im selling the rays on when get to big for what i payed so they will go fast ill look around selling them at the 25" mark might be a big fish for a small tank but the thing is there not for life as with oscars ive found out if i have the tank 15" wide back then get a 4ft by 18" by 18" will be there for life as they have plenty of room there i think for 2 oscras and a large poctus catfish just to clean up after them as they tend to get around 15" oscars do and thats a large one !! :D so what a beast if i can get them that size and breeding as wild are very hard to get in so i hope they will sell fast if not ill grow them to a bigger size around 6"-8" and then sell them if im selling stingrays for £75 a pup or £135 for 2 thats a deal in peoples eyes eeven though i get them for free , and peacock bass 2"-3" long £15 a fish or 5 for £60 saving £15 so cheap for them and money for me !:)
