Well that's sad to hear. Yeah I never had anything worse then ich except with my original breeder male FH (Jr.) Sadly ended up mis-diognosing his swim bladder issue for constipation. By the time I had the proper tools at hand it was already too late and I lost my big baby boy. Still bring tears to my eyes thinking about him. Grew him out from a .5in baby covered in ich from Petco into a big 10in mean biter of a fish. Lol had to either use a barrier or a chainmail glove just to clean the tank. Still planning on getting him mounted at some point, he's the only fish that I'll ever do that for.
yea my poor jd went through all the trials n errors of the hobby with me due to my ignorance..thats why i dont really think much when purists act like the fish is super delicate and u gotta replicate his home in the wild blah blah,,not of fan of that,,they can and will adapt and do just fine being the tank raised fish that they are with proper tank maintenance.food, space etc

Lol replicate their habitat? Their habitat was in some person's fish tank to begin with lol I understand wanting a realistic looking aquascape but even still most of these fish wouldn't know the "wild" if it hit them. Not to mention most of the tank raised fish we have now a days wouldn't even survive in the wild. Granted there are some cases where they do make it and even breed in unnatural environments like Florida but I highly doubt I could take a JD and put it in a lake around here and find it still alive a month later. Fish may have instincts but instincts only will take them so far.
I personally like natural looking aquascapes, but its not really for the fish as much as it is for me to look at. Lol I'll spend hours just tweaking lil things here and there just to make a tank look the way I want. Granted sometime simpler is better, my planted tank is the biggest pain to clean and remove fish from just because I have to tare it apart everytime while a bare bottom is soon much easier to deal with.
