What kind of mean? Like chase your finger mean, Or kill everything in the tank, Or just a bang up tough guy personality.
Flowerhorns cover all the basis, But there are many CA cichlids with similar aggression and personality. Usually all fish will be different in temperment and wont be big agro monsters until reaching adulthood, 2-3+yrs. There are alot of factors to rule in, But interbreeding random fish for their aggression isnt going to produce what you would like it to. Dont think you can breed 2 fish to make an absolutely fearless killing machine.

A mixture of all three, but "kill everything in the tank" and "bang up tough guy personality" are good too.

tilapia butti is a mean fish he chases anything within 4 ft of his tank and will break or kill anything that goes into the tank

But you can't breed an buttikoferi with any CA/SA cichlids. I think your best bet for aggression is a Dovii. And wanting a bold cichlid? A flowerhorn...mix em. ;)

how about just a male flowerhorn?

I absolutely love hybrids, to me there is nothing better then a one of a kind fish. We produce our own
raise them in 40 gallon tubs and keep the ones worth keeping. There is no way to tell how aggressive they can be until they are full grown. Weve had really aggressive TexasxFlowerhorn and ConvictxFlowerhorn raised that we currently keep as adults. You can buy a ture predator that will just kill things, We have had some that are just not compatible not a predator but just a bully. And pretty much any Large robust cichlid kept alone in a smaller tank will be territorial. But hands down some of our hybrids just can not be kept with anything what so ever, if its too small itll end up dead if its too large itll end up beaten continuously overtime. There is a difference in a bully and a predator.

I have had a number of people frown about what I do with breeding. To me I love the idea of a single large super aggressive cichlid showcased alone. My dovii started my love for bigger better stronger meaner cichlids. You can find what your looking for with almost any type of large cichlid kept specifically to be aggressive. There is something different with a hybrid. There mentality is just different and we have a couple of hybrids that have been crossed a couple of times now that really do end up with individual teeth,
Most Parachromis species have two lower spikes, some flowerhorns will have a centered long spike from the top jaw. Having "teeth" is also something we bred for and ended up with we took our Red Texas with "teeth" and bred it to flowerhorns with "teeth" and we produced offspring who retain a mouth full of "teeth". If you do your research you can do it too

Ive been hearing The Beani was one of the baddest fish taking 400 gallons to themselves when they are only 6 inches. I would look into getting one if i were you.

+1 on Beani!
Although I think flowerhorns are aggressive enough, if you want something Hyper aggressive then just get a Beani and enjoy him all by himself in a big tank. They have amazing colors and personality, and you dont have to worry about any breeding, just got to be careful about them getting bloat.
Beani would be my top choice...if not then I would get an Umbee :)
