I recently purchased a couple of flowerhorns for 55 gallon tank. Water parameters were all good. The first fish was about 3 inches and died within two days. The second fish was a juvy and about 1.5 inches. This fish died in a day. Temperature was 78 and the tank earlier had an angel fish and some tetras (since moved to another tank). I thought flowerhorns were very hearty. I have two Eheim canister filters on the tank and keep the fish tank bottom clean of gravel. I added a little stress coat before adding the fish. What could I be doing wrong?

How did you acclimate? And how long did you transport for?

I was only about 15 minutes from fish store and then I left bag in tank for about 30 minutes as recommended by fish store.
Did you ever move any tank water into the bag?

Before buying, have the employee at the LFS feed the Flowerhorn. A healthy FH should readily eat. Examine the fish thoroughly, looking for signs of disease or injury.
If the FH passes those tests, then there is something radically different between the environmental situation in your dealers tank and yours.

Most fish stores dont know how to take care of an fh unless theyre just a great fish store they could have been carrying internal parasites, was he swimming funny he could of had a bacterial infection.
hope this helps and also if you just got it most fish stores have a 14 day money back guarantee

Rapidly shifting water parameters could have easily been the final straw for a potentially stressed fish.

With such small cichlids would a smaller holding tank with hiding space not be better first?

Ah. Could be a shock of the new parameters, it's good to do some acclimation beforehand instead of dumping straight in. That could've been a factor
