Try earthworms. When he starts eating those mix the worms with the frozen smelt/shrimp. Mix them up to get the worm flavor on the frozen.

At some point, he"ll hit the worm and get a chunk of frozen in his mouth at the same time. He"ll then eat frozen. This will work with pellets too.

All of my cats and rays are on massivore using that technique.

This is the best method. It just worked for my tig, he is now eating tilapia and some pellets. It was so awesome to see him go for the worm and get both worm and tilapia:headbang2

thx guys...

ok...i finally got him to eat a dead tilapia...an incredibly fresh tilapia...as in recently dead...thats the only thing he eats now...when i pop in the silversides he goes back to his old self...whats wrong with him and saltwater fish?

Just keep mixing the food he eats with the food he doesn't. Hopefully some will land on the other and he'll grab it all at once.

make cuts in the dead fish so he can scent the flesh/guts.
try a different supplier - every time i buy from Morrison's i waste 50percent plus, when i can get to the fish market it all goes.

I feed my TSN only at night when the lights are out. I finally got it to eat a big pellet. I put it in at night and when I checked back an hour later, its tummy was sticking out and the big pellet was gone.

im sure thats the most surefire way to get them on frozen but...i dont think we have any bait shops here...would it be the same if i rub a tilapia onto the frozen so the "tilapia scent" sticks to it?

That should work. If he's taking tilapia, you're already there. Just thaw the frozen in a cup of tank water, then slosh it around with the tilapia. The flavors will mix and he'll hit it eventually.

It'll take some patience, but sooner or later he'll hit both the tilapia and whatever else you're feeding and bite down and realize both are food.

I was feeding massivore pellets and frozen shrimp and tilapia to my rays. My TSN went in to grab a piece of frozen, got a pellet at the same time, and the next thing I know - he's sucking up pellets like a vacuum.

i put in some tilapia fillets into his tank...the temp is great, params are perfect, middle of the night...he touches it with his whiskers he acts like its a bomb or something...how can he tell its even just a fillet? he never gives it a good ''look''....ill try starving him for a bit...in the meantime those who can give any other tips for this ''kitten''...your advice is highly appreciated...

thanks to the guys above ^ who already did...
