Got a quick question about tsn's. got a 2-3inch last thurs . how soon before he comes content in his surroundings and starts coming out? still havent seen him feed, tried feeding at night lights off ect..... Thanks

I would take all decore out of the tank. If the fish has places to hide, well, it will hide. Taking all the decore out will give you a chance to monitor the cat.

After you have done that, try a very of food. My tsn is stuck on shrimp right now. But, you can try blood worms, krill, beef heart, chopped mussels and so on. Try anything to get him to eat. Ghost shrimp works to.

Would not eating stress him out to? It's a give and take situation when it comes to hiding fish that you can't monitor.

In general, monitoring a new fish (should ideally be done in a quarantine tank) is indeed quite important.

Because it has been 5 days, it may be ok to wait it out a bit longer and keep placing some kind of food each night - if not eaten, take it out next morning... that is if he looks/looked nice and healthy when you first got him and you still can see the glimpses of him and he looks more or less ok. If nothing happens in 10 days, then I'd say the advice above is good - just make sure the (empty) tank is dim, the less light, the less stressed he will be. Bare bottom also helps in this circumstance. You could leave some decor but so that the fish could not hide completely out of sight. TSNs are voracious eaters and should not be too fussy. Still, sometimes it takes a while to find what they take first. That's why asking what it was fed at the shop would be good.

I think both Haynchinook and I are speaking on a presumption that your water parameters are fine (NH3, NO2, NO3, pH, temp, oxygen concentration, hardness) and there are no aggressive tank mates. If these presumptions are violated, then it's a different story.

Hes in a 2ft grow out tank atm with some 1inch Jd's and green sevs. the tank is bare bottom and water param's are fine. at the shop he was eating bloodworm which is what i try and feed all my baby cats at first anyway. last night he ate some small chunks of white bait , so im a little more happy. i suppose he will start coming out a bit more when hes a bit bigger

Mine is a little bit fussy, he only really eats white bait and market shrimp and he seems to go threw stages of eating loads and then very little for a week or 2, as long as he is eating something now n then I wouldn't worry and I hate to be that person nagging about tank size but just so you know he won't be happy in that tank for very long
