As title,id love one of these but the biggest tank i can get in the house is as above, how long could i have one for starting at about 6" or is it just a waste of time?

Cheers steve

IMO a good long time.. atleast 1 year or so i would say but a pond would be better after a year

He will be happy for quite a while (also guessing about a year or so depending on growth) but it will eventually become cramped because they do get BIG.

Is 32" the widest you can go? If you could go wider you could probably keep in it for years.

Hi guys thanks for the replies, unfortunately 32 is the widest i can go,so i think il have to pass on one:(

You could have a lima in there for life as there full size is about 18" and they grow quite slow, As for a tsn it would all depend on its growth rate i had one in a 6foot tank that took over 2 years to reach 18" and he ate like a pig just a slow grower, So at a stretch you may get away with 2 years to sorte out something bigger but remember they are very skatty fish and need a lot of space to swim but good luck what ever you decide.

Maybe look into Tigrinus. They're more expensive, but they're beautiful fish and only get around 24" if I remember correctly. Once my TSN goes in a pond, I plan on getting a tigrinus for my tank.

Sorry me:screwy::screwy: i didnt realise that a tig was a different fish i just thought the tsn's i had seen had different markings:confused::confused:
This is excellent news,so im looking for a brachyplatystoma tigrinium not a platystoma tigrinium :headbang2:headbang2,do they really need higher flow than my aro and will it be ok with my large polys, see sig,and if i see some at a shop will i be able to tell the difference if they are smallish?

cheers steve

its still known in the trade as tigrinus so thats what you should be asking for

they grow fast from 1 inch - 7 inch then slow down a bit then grow fast again up to 12inch then slow down at about 18-20 then take years to get to 24 max size is about 30 mines about 28 now

if i was you dont buy one below 12 inch they have a high death rate

this is what you want right
