TSN not eating help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
monitor your water quality perhaps add a bacterial supplement. make sure you are doing at least 30-50% change every week.
try feeding after lights out (just leave a small room light on) and stand well back from the tank-dont move about while waiting for it to feed.
try a few (say 6-10) thawed out frozen bloodworm, that way you should be able to tell if some are gone later, if it eats them great if not they can be left overnight without fouling the tank.
make sure it has a cave or piece of wood that it can lurk in/under otherwise at this size it will be jumpy.
Most importantly cats that have been moved are stressed and often dont eat for anything up to a month.
if it wont take food dont try to feed every day try every other.

its a 3 incher. its not eating really anything I put in the tank, try to keep away from live foods. any ideas?
Good advice above.

How long has it been in the tank/How long have you had him?
Is it healthy-looking and -behaving (other than not eating)?
What are the water temp, pH, NH3, NO2, and NO3?
Is there adequate aeration?
Are there aggressive tankmates?

Its tankmates are bichirs, they are doing fine. they actually clump together. as for water quality I will have to find a way to test it out. But I do a partial water change every day,

thanks f1! but i the problem with this method is that you'd need a somewhat large fish to eat it. My fish is barely 3 inches.... The TSN seems to be not eating.. its scaring me.

If its newly added or just needs nutrition try Bw, tubifex cubes, smelt, fish flake or even a small pellet. Try feeding at night, if that doesn't work then don't feed for a few days, then try some fish flake, I bet he nibbles when you don't see him, as long as he isn't scary emancipated!

I will take a picture soon. I am unfamiliar with TSN behavior and their food intake. But im afraid he is starving. maybe a picture will help

My TSN refused anything but live.. even though you are against it mine liked nightcrawlers cut up and took those almost as eagerly as feeder fish, at 7 inches he now is starting to take frozen krill, and bloodworms, and whiskers the pellets his tankmates hoover down. personally i worry about getting my fish acclimated and stable in my tanks.. then wean them onto prepared foods ect. beefheart might work as well but isn't an ideal food anymore then bloodworms are imo/ime. Some fish take prepared just fine and others are finicky. I usually offer enough live foods to keep them from starveing ect.. but keep them hungry so they try other foods. My first TSN was a stubborn sob.. only ate nightcrawlers or feeder fish despite useing multiple foods and techniques, but from research and talking to other people he seemed to be the exception not the rule with these fish.

No matter how you tackle the problem I hope he starts eating for you!
