hey how about a normal shovelnose?? i really want it and it looks nice how long would it stay in a 150g?? idk the domensions but i want one. i dont have a big tank yet because i am lookingfor a big tank... can som1 help me find a tank that is pretty big... max is 260 gallons... i need it kinda cheap so anything that could get me started looking for a nice tank.
No such thing. There are many catfish species that are commonly referred to as "shovelnose cats" but the two most common are lima and tiger shovelnose cats, so yours is probably either one or the other.

:iagree: A Lima, or "common shovelnose" would be a good one for a 150, and yeah its all about dimensions not gallons.
It would be fine for a few years, but a permanent home would need at least a few more inches of width, due to the fact that they will eventually get to at least 20" (and 24" isn't uncommon for older specimens).

i have a 75 gallon and the demonsions are 25 inches tall 36 long &18 deep and i know that i couldnt keep a lima in that for long right?

Ya if it's a American shovel noise (flat head) it will get massive. Lol. Indian shovel noise.... Massive and aggressive. TSN big real big but great lookin, Lima skinny and medium size. That's all the shovel noises I know

There are 5 different species of "limas" (sorubim) ranging from 11" to 31"... Maybe I'll put together an article about the differences and show pics, ect.

If you're looking at a 150.. look at a 120wide or a 180.. 150's tend to be taller tanks where the 120/180 has a better footprint for smaller cats.

Just remember TSN cats grow fast and big. I went from a 55 when they were babies to the 450 they're in now within a year and a half. I know a 450 is bigger than maybe needed, but just remember they need a wide tank when they get bigger.
