Hey everyone, this is my first post on MFK, I’ve always liked the looks of the RTC but am in no way prepared to take on that responsibility, I recently came across Some juvenile TSN’s (4”) and became very interested so I’ve researched a little on here and some other sites and I have read the sticky on RTC/TSN. I didn’t see enough info on TSN So I have to ask,

I’m considering getting a TSN for a 125gal cichlid tank, how would it mix with a Red devil” 8”, Gold Saum 4”, Red Devil X Texas hybrid 6”, Jaguar (Managuensis) 4”, and Pleco 8”.

Now speaking on a fullgrown scale, I’m not worried about the jag but will a fullgrown TSN eat the others.

Before everyone starts in on me, I realize this won’t last in a tank that small.

WELCOME

and thats good i was going to say you know those fish can get 5 feet long but it would last for a while and get a small TSN it may work but i would really let those cichlids get alot bigger before getting one they can eat some pretty big fish and will eat other fish from they day they are born so if it even looks like the TSN might be ale to eat your cichlids there not safe if tere as wide as the TSN head there lunch so be really carefull i'd say it would out grow all of those fish in a few months they grow fast

I also welcome you and since you asked I'll start flaming you now.........:D

Seriously...... In my opinion a TSN is much more demanding than a RTC. They tend to spook very easy and startle other fish, they make sharp quick movements which sometimes startle other fish, they are very aggressive feeders which............... you get the point. Also, they both grow at about the same pace and size and both require the same diet. My advice........If you like the RTC then get one, if you can keep a TSN then you can easily keep a RTC. PLUS.... a RTC has soooo much more personality. I just gave away two real nice TSN's and looking to get rid of another, that should tell you something. And about your other fish :grinno: None of them stand a chance :D

JMO as usual.........

An exspensive but tasty meal for the tsn when it gets bigger .

I'll go on record as recomending a RTC over a TSN any day. Your looking at a fish that has a tank of it's own either way so you might as well get the one that makes a far better pet. If you like the look you could get a Lima...or even a marbled cat.

SO TRUE.... If you successfully keep a RTC you will be left with only one fish :D

with that kinda tank id suggest a lima for sure....they r more elegant anyways. but if u can afford it, RTC or the hybrid all the way baby. my TSNs never interact with me. especially since they r in a pond now :(
