Hey new to posting, but have read almost all TSN forums and i have a question. and before people start flaming me i know how big these fish get and what they are capable of and i have an indoor pond awaiting this monster when it's grown.

But anyway like i said i have read the forums and was curious of some fish people have been able safely to keep with their TSN (not turn into a feeder). I would greatly appreciate some actual examples and names of fish and not just the usual reply of "any fish that it can't eat" as that is of little help. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank You

plecos, peacock bass, pacus, oscar, severum, arrowana, stingray, would these work/not work? any/none? help is greatly appreciated

i don't plan on all of them, i was just curious of maybe one or two other fish to put with it

from what i've expierinced catfish in general can eat twice the size of thier mouths. so fish species isnt as big as size. but small barbed fish could easily be the demise of such cats as once locked in can be fatal to both in removing. just my thoughts been wrong before

thanks for the advice, but what are some examples that would obtain a suitable size? that's what i'm hoping everyone can help me with

DEPENDS ON THE SIZE OF THE CAT AND GROWTH RATES OF TOHER FISH sorry caps lock on, pretty mouch dependes from one tank to the next

Your not getting a clear answer to this question because .... SURPRISE... there isn't one!

You need to be able to balance your tank when it comes to large cats... meaning that you need to get fish that will grow at roughly the same rate or getting them at sizes which allow for the difference in growth rate. You can usually get away with keeping Aros and TSN's together provided that you've got them both past the 12" mark when they are introduced (Aros are usually skinny enough to get sucked up below that size)

Pacus can be agressive so it's a chance you take when they are small (both the pacu and the TSN that is)

The main issue with a TSN is that it's mouth is as wide as it's head and can open just as high as it does wide so that equals ALOT of space, if it can get it's mouth around something ... it usually will try to eat it even if the length doesn't fit which thankfully it doesn't have the stomach capacity of a RTC. So it's really about using your judgement about the sizes and knowing when to "shuffle" your stock if needed... Not much help but it's all I think any of us can really say about it.

If your able to offer up hidding places and lots of drift wood to keep a larger TSN away you can actually get away with LOTS of fish but the decor and layout of the tank all play a factor in it as well as feeding schedule LOL miss one feeding and any Big cat will ensure that your made aware of it's dis-approval.. by eating your most expensive and prized fish...

Good luck and keep us posted... would love to see some pics of the pond your planning to put it in :D
