Most fish have a second set of jaws in their throat, to help work down (albeit slowly), large items (similar to Ridley Scott's "alien").
I have a pike cichlid that likes to keep my young ceibal population in check, it usually takes it at least 24-36 hours to work thru.

I actually just got home from the gym to find that my Catfish had thrown up the Silver Dollar. I wonder what made him decide to do that after he had finally swallowed it...

He realized it was just a dollar. Wanted a Benjamin for all that trouble, lol. If you had a RTC, that dollar would have probably stayed down though...

I had a snook who did the same thing, but the SD was way to big for it to swallow so I had to pull out with pliers.

I was afraid I was going to have to do that. I'm glad I didn't have to though. Now I'm actually curious about how many wild fish this happens to.

Have you ever watched the episode of river monsters where they catch the armatus with another armatus stuck in its throat? It was almost the exact same size as it! Given certain fish, it's crazy how large a tank mate has to be in order to not be considered food.
