They do get very big very quickly how big is the tropical pond i want to see pics im jellous but ye id say 1" a month untill about 14-16" then a bit slower and a lot slower at 24" but it will get 30"+

so im guessing theyll hit 16 inches in their first year?
no problem for me,i just dont want it outgrowing everything in my tank.

theres actually two ponds.
im not sure of exact dimensions cause theyre odd shaped.
but im sure theyll hold a TSN.
the bigger pond has a few 3 foot pacus.

Your getting a TSN... Great now to give you good info... we need to know the sub-species that your getting as they can range in size from 3-6' which also means that their growth rates are different and possible tank mates etc... :D

no idea on subspecies.
i just know that its the most common one thats found in nearly every store which sells them to people who cant keep them properly. :)

LOL well that would be ALL LFS's that carry ANY sub-species... It could be any of them but the spotted (usually don't find them to often) and they are the BIG BOY of the group so your talking about a potential Growth without knowing the exact species of somewhere between 3-4 1/2'... getting to that size is dependant on alot of factors, with great water and lots of food... your talking about a growth rate which can rival a RTC at 2" per month during the first year and slowing down to between 8-12 per year after that... again depending on species and conditions

i think it would be...either p. tigrinum or p. fasciatum.
