Due to thier size and constant hunger, keeping small fish is out of the question. If someone can jog my memory of thier max size that'd be great. However, 8x4 footprint is prolly the min for a grown adult.
 
max length is about 5 feet in the wild. they can reach that size in large ponds as well. if they actually reach 5 feet i dont think an 8 foot tank is enuf.
 
By grown adult I meant 2-3ft.

4-5ft in the wild. But realisticly, the way some poeple keep them, prolly more like 3-4 foot. When they get that big a 12x6ft would be fine. If not bigger. But large indoor/outdoor ponds would also suffice.
