TSN's Eating Convicts...problems?

Here in this pic of a close up of my filamentosum illustrates what I am talking about best. Look closely at most catfish and you'll see this on both sides. That's actually the ends of the ribs. In humans cartilage wraps the ribs all the way around. In catfihs they stop right there and are for muscle connections only, and provide no protection to the internal organs.

i basically raised mine on cons feeders!! He is around 22" now and have eat some monster cons! Good luck with the move, last time i moved mine i drain the tank to about 3-4" of water and put a shirt in the tank helped him to swim onto the shirt and pulled him out, water was everywhere and the girlfriend is still complaining about it! Its been six months since i moved him!!!

Actually... you can't see them on ANY of my cats... but them again try to find ribs on a Fat guy and you'll be lookin awhile LOL, Hard to tell what fins your talking about... is it the front ones (Pectoral) or the Rear ones (pelvic)?

Tell me about it ... my 18" just gave my walls a nice wash that they didn't need... Wife wasn't happy with that one! :ROFL: oh well :banher: :headbang2
 
here Necro, that could be it! I had no idea the ribs in cats poked outwards, it kinda feels like I imagine a big con wedged in sideways would. I couldnt remember whether I had felt them before he ate the big con or not! I hope it is the ribs. Its exactly where your pic is marked. No point me taking a pick as my camera is crap! Thanks for the info, dude.

I gotta treat my cons good though as they taught me to be a passable fish keeper by suffering like hell...and if I moved them the JD's and blackbelts would have to come too. I already have to do another bigger pond for my pacu, so my TSN and Oscar (till the TSN is bigger!) would be better in that with them anyway.
 
they can get spiky foods stuck in there mouths convicts apines aren't that bad and really aren't a problem until they are around 3'' and they only really have one spine to worrie about on the top of the pectoral fin

:confused: Have you felt the dorsal on a mature Con?... Trust me ... it'll do some damage on the way down
 
I think he stays still cause hes lazy and as long as I keep putting food by his mouth he stays where he is. Just off to check him now though. The pond was suppose to be amazons with the cons chucked in as feeders for the oscar and TSN...now its their tank! Had to move the pacu already (now thats fun!) Gonna have to get my arse in gear and finish the big pond and leave the small one for the centrals!
 
hmmm, he was swimming around after a little poking!
