he definitely dominated her when i moved the divider. he is 2 times her size and had her relegated to a corner in the 1st minute. do i need to have a plate or smooth surface present as opposed to just my gravel base? also, not sure how to PUMP the fish properly i guess. (i have my temp. at 85 and i feed grand sumo reg, red, and hei feng treasure) what else can i do to PUMP it?

they are too close in size. male flowerhorns need to dominate the female to get her ready. she won't lay eggs for him if he is weak. they need to fight and lock lips so he can prove that he is strong enough. when they are close in size they fight more it takes him longer to prove his strength. you should probably separate them and pump him up. he will grow quickly and gain size on her. wait until he is larger than her by 2 inches at least and try again. if he is larger, she will know he is stronger than her and she may submit easier.

That is so freaking crazy!!!! Fish are awsome!!!!! And so is there instinct!!!!!
