I've had a tuft of tubifex living in my snail tank for a few months now without any fish contact. Is there a good chance that they won't be carrying harmful parasites?

They must be detritus worms rather than tubifex worms as tubifex worms thrive more in muddy or sewage areas than in tanks. They're fine to feed to your fish provided your fish can see them well enough or they'll proliferate in your tank.

Yes, they are living in snail poop. They are tubifex.

Seeing as how they have been isolated for so long, I'm going to go for it. It's a green sunfish after all. They've got iron stomachs, right? Maybe I should wait for more replies...
The worms live in a thin layer of snail poo littered with an eggshell and a rotting leaf, along with the occasional veggie or cichlid pellet I toss in to keep things going. They are always reaching for the sky and have definitely reproduced extensively. The odd thing is that they aren't as red as the original pinch that went in. They seem sort of clear and gray. Anyone know why that might be?

I was wrong. They are still red like earthworms, and there must be a hundred of them now. They are apparently more active in the dark. Any word on feeding safety? Lupin could be right about them not being Tubifex, that's just what the pet store calls them. For all I know they're blackworms or detritus worms or some other annelid. They are certainly the same species I introduced, though. About two inches, pretty active and red. They writhe in a bundle along with a clump of snails on the food I give them.

Better question. Would YOU feed these worms to your fish?

its a green sunfish. shouldnt be an issue. could be wrong though
