yes, they were huge. about 19" long. one jumped out of my tank (right through the glass top and lights ) and the other I sold when I bought a house because I sold the 90g but bought a 150g -the home of 4 small lemon fins I am growing up.
Thanks Harley. I was reading up on them and they said it's best to keep them singly if you don't have the room for 6 or more. They had one more at the pet store where I got this one from. Do you think it would benefit if I bought the 2nd one or will they fight?
In that case I'd stick with one. I had 7, but they went down one by one when they fled from my dat and hit the glass Gorgeous fish, though. Gorgeous fish!
Just picked this guy up for my 120. I'd say it's about 5" long. This species is closely related to the Pink-tailed Chalceus. Sorry for the crappy pics but this guy doesn't stay still for very long. Anyone else keep them and if so with what type of fish?
yeah - always swimming very fast, can easily get up to 10" imo. been kept with cichla, flagtails, loaches, and all sorts. very fast swimmers so too fast to get eaten and harmless towards the other fish.
Thanks for the info guys. I actually purchased him as sort of a target fish for my male Jag. He was constantly trying to kill a male Convict I keep with him and I thought this might distract him. I'm happy to say the jag has no interest in the Chalceus and seems to be done showing the Con who's boss.

Affirmative! Chalceus are shoaling fish, but if you are not able to get more of them (I had 5, didn't work) you should keep them singly. Out of my 5 the 2 strongest each occupied a territory of approximately 20"x20". I had to get rid of the other 3. Now it works perfectly fine.
