I have a 75 gallon tank with a very temperamental 8'' red devil. Currently i also have a 12'' pleco that constantly gets battered by the rd. I'm trying to find a good, tuff scavenger to add to my tank. What kind of species will hold it's own in my tank?

Nothing, the rd needs the space him self. If you need some fish to clean the tank, just get up and do more water changes!

I have an idea. I have the same situation on a few different fronts. If you have a nice big piece of driftwood in the tank as refuge you can add a Raphael cat. They hide during the day and work during the night! Pvc tubes or whatever would work too as long as the devil can't reach him. I haven't tried this but I plan on it.

You can be my Guinea pig! lols

They are nocturnal so chances are minimal. When fish fight damage to both parties is always possible that is something you will have to accept if you want to keep a aggressive fish like a midas with tank mates.

catfish if bitten have strong bones that poke out like spines. this is located on there top and side fins... Raphael cats when attacked start humming really loud which will throw ur RD off. if not that, a few catches will keep your RD at bay. I dont see any real damage to your fish happening...

raphaels are tough but they grow really slowly. what about a giant bumblebee cat?
