This is why I love loaches:
They dig up the substrate and pick up the leftovers plus scatter the "dirt" which will be easily picked up by the filter. They're good addition to any non planted (or planted with hardy plants) tank. But, your delicate carpet plants are good as gone. Also, an additional information about these, the loaches love to feast on snails.
