Turbo HOB??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why do you think you need to enhance the bio wheels with additional media? A well maintained 400 is a fine, quality filter, for both bio and mech.

the best way to improve the bio filtration on a emperor filter is to throw it in the trash and replace it with an aquaclear 110 with both a 4l media basket, and 100gph higher flowrate.
lol

Yes and once you get the ac110 be ready to reprime it everytime you unplug it to do a water change. Also place a bucket under it to catch the water that spills out if the sponge clogs. And last but not least add a extra filter because the ac sponges don't catch anything.

yes i must have put those sponges in upside down.:screwy:

And do you mean to tell me you are the only person to ever own a AC110 that does not have to reprime after a power kill?

There is threads all over the internet about them clogging and leaking out. But I beleive in every case it was when someone tried to mod them to try and get them to actually work. But if your happy with a HOB style power head then thats great. I prefer to actually filter my water.

hahahha. since you obviously dont understand the function of this particular filter, its no use arguing with you. if you prefer a useless frill like a bio wheel which does not do much of anything, and a filter cartridge that the water flows over, rather then through, more power to you. i prefer to actuall push the water through the media.

I guess its the engineer in me that likes saftey features, like flow over catridges. Instead of flow over onto floor style filters. But if you think that a sponge is better than a bio wheel I feel sorry for you.:screwy:

i think 4l of media that water is pushed THROUGH, is much better the the fraction of that which the bio-wheels hold if they spin (wich time has proven over and again, that they will stop spinning. and welall know what dry media means)

only USER ERROR will cause any such spill over.

I have 3 emp 400's that are 15yrs old or better and a emp 280 that is around 18 years old and the bio wheels both spin freely to this day.

I also have 2 ac110's that have spilled over on the floor after i tried to install a finer filter media like i run in my emp's. They now reside in the basement on a concrete floor with a floor drain a few feet away.

Yes user error of actually purchasing ac110's will lead to spill overs. If you try and get them to work as good as other filters for finer particles.

You just have to be happy with ac's the way they come and they work OK. And be ready to reprime them at every water change.
