Really? He eat a tankmate or just overfed?
We had a poly that would get so fat he would just lay on the bottom, trying to swim but had trouble.

once I ate these brownies, afterwords I ate so much food I too just lay on the ground. Couldnt move til the next day. true story

I don't think any fish would eat enough to "burst" because it would become physically impossible to stuff any more food into their mouth before that happened.

i put some crushed up massavoire pellets in my sen grow out tank and one of them went over like a vacuum cleaner and ate like 5 pellets worth,later the pellets must have expanded and i found him dead with his stomach ripped open.

This is the same reason you are not supposed to throw uncooked rice at a wedding. It happens to birds too. They don't know that it's gonna double it's volume while in their stomach.....

however i have seen oscars eat so much that they started choking, and had to sit there with their moiuth open for like 15 mins until the pellets they were eating got soft enough to be chewed...
but in my experience most fish will eat as much as they want then completely ignore any more food....except oscars who will eat,chew,swallow,eat,repeat

ive had fish that will continue to eat and eat until they had to spit out the food already eaten and eat again.

My oscar will get sloppy after she's had her fill, if i feed her more she will take it but half of it will come out from her gills. That's when I know to stop.

My fish always seem hungry and willing to eat (african cichlids) but when they dont rush to eat i figure that they have had enough. (most of the time they are practically jumping out of the tank.
