Probably for amateur crooks maybe a dog would work as a deterrent but I would feel worse about my dog getting hurt than my house getting robbed anyway.

My friend recently caught a burglar and chased the guy who eventually jumped out a window but left a back pack. Inside the back pack was night vision goggles, handcuffs and a taser.

That is scary indeed. I would like to keep a large boa one day (manageable size) alongside dogs (ridgebacks!!!) Since the common groups that break in here are terrified of snakes like you wont believe and ridgebacks are lovely as well as good guard dogs

Hopefully it never happens though

You should see how scared my gardener is of my corn snake, he ran to the other end of the garden. Some people are not afraid of snakes, but a boa let loose may be another matter

I run a surveillance camera on my property, haven't actually caught any funny business but it is peace of mind. Only problem if guys come in wearing ski masks, you'll only have a nice home video of your house getting robbed and not be able to identify anyone. lol

Very true. My dad installed a lot of beams and sensors for peace of mind. crime is just a reality we have to deal with here

Almost everyone here has a wall, spikes or electric fencing, electric gates, alarms and window bars.

Many people here are poor or have links to gangs and currently little is set to change Wailua Boy
