i have 2 acrylic 240's that im contemplating turning into a 8x4x2 by cutting the front off one, the back off the other, and using weld on to glue the two together. once that is glued together I plan on glueing 3 to 4" wide strips or "eurobraces" along the reglued seams. sure it wont be the most pretty thing in the world I feel it would work.

thoughts?

Sounds nice don't know if it'd work or not I just never looked into it or tried I always wanted to get a acrylic tank the same height as the one I have now and build a L shaped tank but you can put more in a wider / deeper tank.... I'm sure someone who knows more will answer your question

Cool idea!

My self I would just sell both 240's and buy the tank I want. Rather than chance destroying 2 good tanks. But it would be a fun project. And may save time and cash.

both tanks have been repaired before, so resale value round me is not much, and both tanks were picked up on the cheap.

Which weld on are you going to use? #40/42 is the strongest then #4 then #16. Use #40 if possible. #4 would probably be ok but I would avoid #16. It just won't be strong enough.

It will be a booger cutting a straight line on an assembled tank because you will not be able to clamp a straight edge on the tank so I hope your saw skills are A1. If you are dead set trying this what saw do you plan to use? If using a 7.25" circular saw make sure you have someone there to spray water on the blade or the blade will get so hot it will walk on you. The only chance you have of sealing it will be the strips you talked about. They will not be pretty but they will work, just lay over the cuts and use weld on. If you are using a 3" strip just use #4 as it will be strong enough.

Not going to make a big "open" top tank but why not put 4 or 5. 8 inch PVC circles to connect them it would be easier "I think" but not as nice open and flashy maybe to make one long tank or a L tank

I would have to use my circ saw with my plastics blade. I have some 3' clamps I could use and I'm pretty handy with the saw. It will work, just not shure if I will do it yet haha.
