turning a 10 g in to salt ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I agree about the anemone. We have a big one in our 90g and the amount of waste they produce is ridiculous. I wouldn't put one in a 10g, I think anyone that saw them poop would agree, lol. They can also be a hazard since if something irritates them they'll move around your tank and end up stinging everything.

I also wanted to add to really really research if you become interested in a certain fish. Looks can really be deceiving in SW fish and some babies look nothing like that as adults. I got interested in some convict blennies for my 20g. They look like cute like snake-like fish that don't get over a couple inches and it turns out they turn into 14-18 inch monsters that looks nothing like the babies and will burrow deep into the sand and potentially knock over all your rock work.

Anemones make monster waste.

We have a giant condy and a rose bubble tip. The condy would be able to touch all of the sides in a 10 gallon. Nothing would be safe besides a clown fish or certain damsels.

If you read my post i didnt say that it wasent possible, I merely said that it would not be worth the time and money he would need to do so. Why spend a hundred bucks or more for an extra 10 gal. Keep the ten set up for a sick fish tank and put some money into something worth your while.

I will agree on the the "why spend a hundred bucks or more for an extra ten". . .you can setup a 29 or even a 20H/L or 15 and have a lot more fun for the same money. The tank is the cheapest part in any situation. Personally I would recommend something a little bigger esp for a beginner.

live rock and live sand act as filtration all in themselves, they are more costly than regular sand and fake decorations but they make it well woth it in time. In a 10 gallon you could do an anemone and a clownfish, a couple damsels and a goby to start out with. If you wanted to do more specialized substrate in there, you could do a mixture of live/fine sand and get some pearly jawfish in there, they are kickass. Id stock heavily with liverock/livesand unless you want to go totally crazy on a biofiltration setup meant for something at least 3X the size

ya I'll keep thinking about it i don't really wanna sink allot of money in a 10g tank I'm working on putting money together for a 150 I'll let you guys know if i do anything with it

10g nanos are wonderful and well worth the money at a work desk or in a college dorm or bedroom. Ive had them for 4 years now. Go with an AC70 and find Live rock from someone breaking down their tank on Craigslist, happens all the time. Go for 1 or 2 fish, 15# LR, 10#LS. Here are fish that would do well in a 10g:

-Catalina Goby [cold water]
-Clown Gobies
-Eviota Gobies
-Panda (Clown) Goby
-Redhead Goby
-Trimma Goby
