I have purchased a new 135gal 3x3x2 aquarium that was previously used as a saltwater setup. My intensions are to convert it to freshwater. What is the best way to clean it so that the freshwater isn't contaminated?

Anyone converted before? Any tips etc?
Thanks.

Well my 55 was a salt set up, and im sure ilthere was a better way. But i took it the car wash at my apt. And just hosed and wiped and howed and wiped. Its been running freshwater for aboit 6 months now and everything is well.

white vinegar and water half and half x24 hrs and wash well and you are good to go

Great thanks. By contaminants i mean pretty much salt deposits. I am thinking i will use vinegar and give everything a real good scrub. I will also fill the tank and leave it for a couple of days. Then drain and refill. Any advice for cleaning the overflow pipes and overflow box? They are siliconed in and its a very tight squeeze to get anything in to scrub!?!?

Thanks everyone, I will begin my cleaning tonight!

If by chance i miss any of the salt deposits, will this be dangerous to my fish? I figured when diluted it wouldn't be so bad. But I wanted to make sure my fish weren't likely to die should I miss anything?

I bought a 75 acrylic and it was salt I just rinsed it out good

Thanks for all the helpfull responces.
Sorry for all the questions!
One last one:
The tank came with some sand which i have rinsed throughly. Can this go in the tank under my current sand (which i will be switching out of the 180), mainly to thicken up the bed for the plants (which are.often uprooted!).

Thanks everyone, i should be well on my way soon! :D
