Turnover ratio

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's a neat DIY filter I may have to try one like that.
The aquaclear 70 is a good filter. If you can afford the extra $20 or so go with the 110 model you will be happy you did.

I'll take it into account matey.

My DIY filters works really good, it removes a lot of waste i have to change the floss twice a week which surprises me I only have currently two FH (separated with a tank splitter of course), those dudes are really messy.

The more the better....I go 10x in my 135....7x in my 55 planning getting a canister to step up to the 10x ratio

How do you guys calculate the turnover rate?

An example:

If your tank is an 80 gal and you have a filter that moves 1300 liters X hour, first you have to convert gal to liters.

80 X 3.76= 300.80 liters.

Now to calculate the turnover ratio you have to divide 1300/300.3 = 4.32 turnover ratio. is what that 1300lXh filter would give to your 80 gal tank.

Cheers.

I dont convert to liters tho...I do total gph/tank size(is this right)
Armand the more the better....FH are better off with good clean water....I also do a 50% w/c once a month and 20-30% weekly

In this case, I've two overhead filters each connected to a powerhead & each powerhead has a max flow of 3000 liters / hour.. So for the water to pump from the powerhead through the filter, this would reduce the flow rate & I roughly estimate the actual flow rate would be 2000 liters / hour..

My tank is 65 gallons x 3.78 = 245.7 liters

(2 x 2000) / 245.7 = 16.28 turnover rate

So my tank has 16 times of turnover??
