Turquoise severum care

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Severums are pretty mild tempered. If they start fighting in your future 120 just put in some vision barriers and redecorate. I would get about 3 more sevs to add once you have the 40g cycled. Once they start approaching 4-5 inches you could move them to the 120g. As tankmates for your sevs in the 120g. I would go with a school of 5 silver dollars and maybe 4-5 clown loaches.

I wouldn't be so sure about that ;)

There's a few members here that have had or currently keep absolute bastard fish.

I guess there is always the exception... really? I'll never look at severums the same way again... :D

Out of the several I have most wont go out of their way to be aggressive. They don't like anyone to get in their bubble. I have 3" one that picks on a festae twice his size. He has red eyes so I think he might be possesed.

Wow he picks on a festae twice his size! Put some holy water in that tank!

my festae is no push she chases everything. I'm just waiting for severum to get taught a lesson soon.

i have 2 in a 90 gallon, with cons, firemouths, bps, a jd...and they are the mildest fish in the tank.. they mess with noone, avoid everyone, and are my absolute faves in the tank...granted i got them when they were a lil bigger then a dime, and now they are quater sized..
i dont find them aggressive at all.

Severums are absolute beauties to own. I started out with two greens, and now I have a red-shoulder and a red-spotted gold severum. They're typically pretty peaceful cichlids (usually only aggressive when breeding) and do well together. If you're trying to pair some off for breeding, it's best to get a few and let them do the work. Right now mine are in with some blue acaras and a firemouth and they do perfectly fine.

Yeah that's what I'm going to try to do, I bought 6 more last night and added all of them to the 120 gallon. Going to try and pair them off and keep one or two of the pairs, then I'll give away the rest. They seem fine right now, have acclimated and there's no fighting.
