I play it safe and use a UVB bulb even though it isn't entirely necessary. Some people don't use them for Snappers, Musk & Mud turtles, and some people do. On nice warm days, I put mine outside in a shallow tub to get a couple hours of natural sunlight.

If you say your turtle is an adult then he is pretty much full grown, but they do continue to grow on a very small scale their whole life.

As for “Stinkpots” being legal in CA……probably not. Pretty much nothing is legal there! You'll just have to do some research.

yeah when I take my turtle out to sunbathe, he's in a 12gallon tub that's only filled a few inches(since little UVB goes through water) but he is trying to escape and not stretching his neck and legs like the turtles at the lake. Does he HATE sunbathing?

O.k., I'll ask the legalities of them from the DFG then.
